Dr. Emel Çağlar

About me:
I graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 2000 and completed my specialization in internal medicine at the Ankara Training and Research Hospital. My desire to become an internal medicine specialist stemmed from a passion for approaching patients holistically, allowing me to provide comprehensive care grounded in broad knowledge and extensive patient experience. I believe that the growing trend of sub-specialization in medicine, with its continual division into subfields, can sometimes hinder a full understanding of the patient.

 

Over the course of my 25-year medical career, gained through working with patients in university hospitals, state hospitals, and private institutions, I have developed a particular focus on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of metabolic disorders such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and metabolic syndrome. These are conditions that are both preventable and treatable, and my aim is to enhance my patients' quality of life and longevity. I also have extensive experience at thyroid and kidney diseases, digestive and absorption disorders, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, anemia caused by iron and Vitamin B12 deficiencies, as well as blood disorders, infectious diseases, and cancer.

 

Another group of patients I focus on are those in the geriatric population, who often face chronic conditions and require comprehensive, supportive care in their later years. I am a firm believer that, beyond knowing how to treat diseases, a doctor should also prioritize preventive medicine, addressing the root causes to improve long-term health outcomes. I emphasize the importance of early diagnosis, particularly through personalized health assessments, such as check-up programs, which I see as crucial in detecting issues before they escalate.

 

Just as we trust paediatricians with our children's health, I encourage adults to see internal medicine specialists as their primary doctors for a wide range of health concerns.
